Lawyer arrested for torturing domestic help
A woman was arrested for torturing her 12-year-old domestic help in port city’s Hamjarbag area yesterday.
Later in the day, the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman Uddin passed the bail order of the accused, Advocate Shyamoli Bhattacharya, in the case, after Chattogram District Bar Association’s president and general secretary sought bail for her, said Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
“As the accused is about eight months pregnant, the court granted bail after hearing,” said Shahabuddin.
The woman was arrested from her house on charge of torturing her domestic help, Riad.
Police rescued the boy after a guard from Momin Tower at Hamjarbag called the emergency hotline 999, when the boy tried to escape the house by cutting the iron grill on the eighth floor.
The victim told the police, his employer used to torture him frequently. Police found multiple marks of injury on his body.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Kashem Bhuiyan of Panchlaish Police Station said they informed Riad’s parents in Cox’s Bazar and he will be handed over to his family.
