CTTC yet to receive approval for charge sheet
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit yesterday could not submit the charge sheet against eight suspected militants of Ansar al-Islam in the Xulhaz-Tonoy murder case as they were yet to get approval from the home ministry.
Earlier on May 12, the CTTC sent the charge sheet prepared against the militants to the home ministry for its approval. But the ministry was yet to give any approval, court sources said.
However, a Dhaka court yesterday set June 20 for submitting the probe report to the court in connection with the case.
The murders were committed on instructions of Maj (sacked) Syed Ziaul Haq, military wing commander of Ansar al-Islam, the charge sheet mentioned.
Four of the accused -- Mozammel Husain alias Saimon, Arafat Rahman, Md Sheikh Abdullah, and Asadullah -- are in police custody.
Meanwhile, four others including Maj (sacked) Zia, Akram Hossain, Sabbirul Haque Chowdhury, Zunaid Ahmad alias Maulana Zuned alias Zunaid are on the run.
Suspected militants killed former USAID official Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy at Xulhaz’s Kalabagan flat on April 25, 2016.
