Police early yesterday arrested a man and seized 1,200 pieces of yaba pills, 28 rounds of bullets, 24 bottles of foreign alcohol, 48 cans of beer, and Tk 22,000 from a vehicle in Signboard area under Siddhirganj Police Station.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sumon (29), driver of the SUV, said law enforcers.
Police claimed, after being arrested, the driver said the SUV is owned by Showkat Aziz Russell, chairman and managing director of Amber Group.
Muhammad Harun Or Rashid, superintendent of police in Narayanganj, disclosed the information at a press conference at his official conference room yesterday afternoon.
The SP said Russell was in the SUV, carrying a firearm, and managed to flee the scene. Two cases were filed against Sumon and Russell on charge of possession of drugs and illegal firearms. Police were continuing drives to arrest Russell, said the SP.
The Daily Star tried to contact Russell over phone for his comments but his mobile phone was found switched off.
