11 get life term for UP chairman murder

Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal yesterday sentenced 11 persons to life imprisonment in Kolom union parishad's chairman Fazlar Rahman Fonu murder case of Natore district.

It also fined each of the convicts, mostly local BNP activists, Tk 5,000, in default they would have to suffer one year more in jail, while acquitted seven others.

On January 18, 2014, the 11 first stabbed Fonu and his nephew Jahidul Islam Fazlar, a local AL leader, after waylaying their motorbike at Shahpara village and finally shot Fonu dead over establishing supremacy in the area.
