Nagarkrishi awarded as country’s Best Agricultural Business Entity
Nagarkrishi, a startup, has been awarded for the category of Best Agricultural Business Entity for 2018 by Teer-Prothom Alo.
The Teer-Prothom Alo jury presented the award to the startup during a ceremony organized in collaboration with the City Group on Saturday, April 6.
“We received 565 applications for 8 categories and 24 of them were shortlisted for final evaluation. Out of those 24 outstanding applicants, it was hard to select the winners for each category, and the best contributors were picked for the award,” said Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman.
Nagarkrishi was founded back in 2016 by three agricultural enthusiast friends – Kamrul, Mahfuj and Shihab – with the aim to change the traditional urban picture into beautiful greenery. They faced great challenges to turn their dream to reality, as every other startup does, but the vision inside them acted as a catalyst in the pursuit.

The startup now has 25 dedicated employees in their office in Dhaka’s Niketon, and has served more than 450 happy clients since its inception, mostly in rooftop farming and landscaping services.
“If we do not take a stand now to turn our urban cities beautiful, our next generations will only be left with mere disaster and there won’t be anything left but regrets,” said Nagarkrishi CEO Kamrul.
“I think we all should move into the age where our rooftops and balconies would be utilised for agriculture purposes, not just for drying our clothes. Don’t you think, it would be amazing if we can pluck mint from the balcony and drink totally organic tea?” he told the audience at the award giving ceremony.
It is high time that our government and other contributors take a stand behind Nagarkrishi and make this country great as it is always destined to be.
