Man held over death threat to Mayor Annisul

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday detained a man for allegedly giving a death threat to Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq.

Md Nahid Happy, 41, was arrested with 121 Yaba tablets and a mobile phone near the FDC gate in the capital's Tejgaon around 4:40pm, said Maj Maksudul Alam, deputy director of Rab's Legal and Media Wing.

An unknown caller introducing himself as “Imam Mohaki” threatened the mayor on July 14, Rab said.

A general diary was later filed with Gulshan Police Station.

The Rab official said interrogation revealed that the detainee was a drug addict and extorted people by threatening them over the phone for a long time.
