Investigators fail to submit report in two weeks
Fourteen working days have passed since the Chittagong City Corporation authorities formed a probe committee to inquire an allegation of wrong treatment at Memon Maternity Hospital under the city corporation, and were asked to submit a report in three days, but the committee is yet to submit one.
Shah Newaz, a businessman, alleged that his baby died in his wife's womb due to negligent treatment at the hospital on August 8.
“My wife was admitted on August 6…we frequently asked the doctors to perform a caesarian section…but they kept on waiting. At last they do so only to take the dead baby out,” he said.
A probe committee, headed by Prof Dr Selim Muhammad Jahangir, principal of Chittagong Medical College, was formed on August 9, said Dr Selim Akter Chowdhury, CCC chief health officer. The authorities also suspended a medical officer of the hospital, he added.
Dr Jahangir yesterday said the report would be submitted soon since three working days were not enough as they were considering all the aspects and talked to both the family and doctors.
Contacted, Dr Chowdhury, CCC chief health officer, declined to comment.
