HC questions legality of DU appointment

The High Court yesterday questioned the legality of appointment of Khandaker Tofayel Ahmed, a lecturer of Dhaka University (DU)'s philosophy department.

Following a writ petition, the court issued a rule asking the DU authorities to explain in 10 days why Tofayel's appointment as lecturer should not be declared illegal.

It asked the authorities to explain why HM Meraz Shourav, another candidate for the same post, should not be appointed as lecturer.

Shourav filed the petition.

Citing from the petition, Shourav's lawyer Barrister MMG Sarwar said Shourav was a qualified candidate for the lecturer post but Tofael was appointed even though he did not fulfill all recruitment criteria.
