HC directs probing home approval delay
The High Court yesterday directed the government to probe the home ministry's delay in approving trial against two Chapainawabganj men accused in three cases filed under the Anti Terrorism Act-2009.
The HC also asked the cabinet secretary to submit a report to it in 45 days after taking actions against the ministry's officials concerned, Assistant Attorney General Shahidul Islam Khan told The Daly Star.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan also scrapped proceedings of the cases against the two -- Rabiul Islam Rabi and Abdul Rakib Suman -- and granted them bail.
The court came up with the order after hearing five petitions filed by them challenging the trial proceedings.
Shahidul said the cases were filed in 2009 on charge of committing criminal offences and their investigation reports were submitted to the lower court concerned in Chapainawabganj the same year.
The trial court sought the ministry's sanction in 2013 for taking cognizance of charges against them.
The ministry gave approval to the court in April this year, he said, adding that the copy of the sanction has not reached it yet.
