Four persons remanded
A Dhaka court yesterday sent four persons on remand in a case filed over killing of 11-year-old boy Abdullah after abduction in Keraniganj.
The court granted a seven-day remand for Mehedi and five-day each for Khorshed, Al Amin and Mitu, said court sources. Mehedi and Mitu are son and daughter respectively of Motahar, a key suspect, and his wife have been absconding.
Sources at Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue, where an autopsy was conducted yesterday, said the boy was strangled. He was buried at his village in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, locals at Mugarchar in Keraniganj staged a demonstration for the second day yesterday, demanding exemplary punishment for the killers.
While visiting the bereaved family at Mugarchar, local lawmaker and Food Minister Kamrul Islam said he will look after the legal procedures on behalf of the family.
“Hopefully, the charge-sheet of the case will be pressed in the shortest possible time...the case will be disposed of within three to four months,” he told reporters.
The body of Abdullah, son of Badal Hossain and Rina Begum, was found inside a plastic barrel in a building, owned by Rina's maternal uncle Motahar, within 50 feet of the boy's house at Mugarchar on Tuesday noon. Abdullah went missing on Friday noon. Later, his family paid Tk 2 lakh as ransom against Tk 5.5 lakh demanded by the captors.
Abdullah's grandfather Marfat Ali said it was beyond his imagination that a person can kill a child in such a brutal way.
