Farewell to politician Ajoy in love, respect
People from all walks of life paid their last respects to the mortal remains of veteran politician Ajoy Roy at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka this morning.
His body was taken to the Shaheed Minar around 11:00am where senior politicians, ministers, eminent personalities and organisations paid their last respect.
“He showed the path towards democracy and progressiveness for a long time,” said Asaduzzaman Nur, cultural affairs minister, after paying his last respect.
“Till the last breath of his life, he believed that a welfare state is impossible without the freedom of the working people,” he told journalists.
Columnist Syed Abul Maksud condoled the loss of a seasoned politician after paying his last respect at the remains of Ajoy Roy. “He had a strong part in Bangladesh’s freedom struggle.”
Eminent personality and rights activist Sultana Kamal said: “He fought all his life to establish a beautiful and peaceful state equal for all.”
Bangla Academy, Udichi, Chayanaut, and Sammilita Samajik Andolon were among the organisations who paid their respects. Syed Ashraful Islam placed a wreath on behalf of ruling Awami League.
Ajoy, president of Sammilita Samajik Andolon, also a coordinator of a platform against communalism and militancy, passed away in Dhaka at the age of 88 on Monday.
