Deputy, asst AGs appointed before 2017 asked to resign
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today instructed the deputy attorney generals and assistant attorney generals who were appointed before 2017 to resign from their offices.
The instruction of the resignation was given as per the request of the law ministry, the attorney general told The Daily Star.
He also said that some deputy attorney generals and assistant attorney generals have already tendered their resignation letters to his office.
Earlier in the day, the Mahbubey Alam held a meeting with the DAGs and AAGs at his office.
He asked the DAGs and AAGs who were appointed before 2017 to submit their resignation letters to his office by 4:00pm today. He also said that the DAGs and AAGs will run their duties until the president accept their resignations.
Earlier on Wednesday, Law Minister Anisul Huq urged the DAGs and AAGs appointed before 2017 to step down from their offices for the sake of new appointments into those offices.
There are one attorney general, two additional attorney generals, 67 deputy attorney generals and 106 assistant attorney generals for moving cases on behalf of the state before the Appellate Division and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
Among them 35 DAGs and 55 AAGs were appointed before 2017, the AG office sources said.
