Court accepts charge sheet
A Sylhet court accepted the charge-sheet of blogger and science writer Ananta Bijoy Das murder case on Monday.
The court fixed October 18 for the first hearing, said court sources.
Arman Ali, inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge-sheet on August 28 accusing five persons, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
Of the accused, Mannan Rahi and his brother Mohaymen Noman are in jail, while Abul Hossain, Faisal Ahmed and Harunur Rashid are on the run.
Harunur is from Tahirpur upazila while the rest are from Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet.
Mannan admitted his involvement in the killing before a Sylhet metropolitan magistrate on September 2 last year, according to the investigators.
They killed the victim after being hurt by his write-ups on Islam, said Mirza Abdullah Hel Baqui, special superintendent of CID.
Ananta Bijoy Das was hacked to death at Subidbazar in Sylhet city on May 12, 2015 on the way to his office.
Later, banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team claimed responsibility of the murder through online post.
Ananta's brother Ratneswar Das filed a murder case accusing some unnamed persons with Sylhet Airport Police Station the next day. Later the case was transferred to CID.
