BRUR officials start strike for salary hike, promotion
The 108 officials of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in Rangpur have started an indefinite strike from yesterday demanding that the authorities meet their four-point demand.
The demands include promotion, salary hike and solving of their residential problem, the officials said at a demonstration on the campus.
Mohammad Ali, BRUR public relation officer, said over phone that their promotion, salary hike and other facilities remained held up for the last three years.
“We have been told our demands will be met in the Saturday's syndicate meeting,” he said, adding, “Though we are not seeing any signs of that as we have drawn the attention of the university authorities over the issue numerous times.”
The officials alleged they have tried to contact Prof Dr AKM Nurun Nabi, vice-chancellor of BRUR, but he did not give them much time.
ATM Golam Firoz, president of BRUR officials' association, said the strike will continue until their demands were met. The student affairs will remain out of the purview of the strike, he said.
This correspondent tried to contact Ibrahim Kabir, BRU registrar, but his mobile phone was found switched off.
