Two Barisal fires kill one
A person was killed and 14 others were injured in two fire incidents in Barisal yesterday.
In the city, a worker was killed while four others were injured in a fire that broke out at a factory of Opsonin Pharma Ltd in Bogura Road area.
Nesaruddin Peyada, 48, a carpenter and son of Abul Payada, of Patuakhali, died at Sher-e-Bangla hospital where the four others are undergoing treatment.
The five workers were asleep on the fifth floor when the fire broke out at the packaging and godown section on the third floor of the six-storey building around 2:15am, said Saidur Rahman, the factory in-charge.
Seven fire fighting units reached the spot within five minutes but succeeded to douse the blaze after 5:30am.
The fire officials suspect that the blaze originated from an electric short circuit and estimated the damage at Tk 5 crore.
Meanwhile, in Gournadi upazila, 10 people were injured while six business establishments and four houses were burnt down in Raipatty of Torki Bandar. Two of the injured were admitted to the upazila health complex.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at an electronics store, said fire officials. Fire fighters extinguished the blaze after three hours' effort at 6:30am.
The business establishments include warehouses of Nikhil and Brothers, Marico Bangladesh Ltd, GSK Distributor, and a restaurant.
The victims claimed that the loss they incurred is about Tk 5 crore.
