Cop ‘kills self’ at Mirpur barrack

A policeman has reportedly died by suicide in Dhaka’s Mirpur area.

Shah Mohammad Abdul Quddus, 31, was a naik and lived at a barrack of the Public Order Management (POM) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, according to police.

Around 5:30am today, he shot himself with his firearm on the POM field, said Selimuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station.

“Hearing the gunshot, other barrack residents rushed to the field and found Abdul dead. He had shot himself in the chest,” the OC said quoting Abdul’s co-workers.  

The body was being sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, said the OC.
