Attacker sent to jail

A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) was sent to jail yesterday for allegedly harassing and physically assaulting a female student and sending her death threats.

Rifat Adnan Papon, a third year student of business administration, was picked up by police on Tuesday evening after the victim filed a general diary with Jalalabad Police Station, said police.  

Acting Proctor Md Emdadul Haq said Papon had been suspended twice before for misbehaviour.

Quoting the female student, he said Papon approached her on Sunday to talk to her, but when she refused, he harassed her and slapped her with his sandal.

The following day, the victim submitted a written complaint to the proctor of the university. Papon was then served with an order to show cause.

On Tuesday, Papon sent her death threats over phone, which prompted her to file the GD, said the acting proctor.
