SPBN member shot dead outside Gono Bhaban

A member of Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBN), who was hit by a bullet when he was on duty at Gono Bhaban -- official residence of the prime minister--last night, died early today.

Nayek Atiqur Rahman, 28, son of Md Bahar of Hatiya upazila of Noakhali, suffered bullet wounds in his chest near the mosque at the north gate of Gono Bhaban around 10:45pm yesterday, DMCH police outpost sources said.

He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital but later referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed around 1:30am.

It was not immediately clear who fired the shot or why.
