Accused 'kills himself' in Shailakupa Police Station

An accused allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in police custody yesterday, a day after he was arrested and taken to Shailakupa Police Station in Jhenidah.

Warrant listed Kazal Mondol, 25, was son of Julhash Mondol of Rajapur village in Shailakupa upazila, and arrested from his house with 20 grams of ganja on Thursday night, said Mohibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shailakupa police.

He hanged himself from an iron bar in the toilet around 12:30pm when he was in the custody, and received severe injuries, the OC added.

Kazal was rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
