5 bullet-hit in clash over sand lifting

Ten people were injured, including five sustained bullet wounds, during a clash between two groups over extracting sand from a designated pit from Balumahal in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj yesterday morning.

The clash broke out between the two rival groups in Kodmir char area around 8:00am when the people of one group were extracting sand while another attempted to resist them, said Shakhawat Osman, officer-in-charge of Araihazar Police Station.

Three of the injured were taken to Dhaka while the rest were being treated at a local hospital in Homna of Comilla, the police official added.
