12 'dopers' held in Dhaka
Detectives in separate drives arrested 12 alleged members of a doper gang from Mirpur and Ramna in Dhaka last night.
The arrestees are Md Amir Hossain, 35, Md Salam Hawlader, 55, Md Arif Hossain, 27, Md Al-Amin, 19, Md Sagar, 18, Md Mohsin Hossain Tusar, 23, Md Parvez, Akhter Hossain Alias Sabuj, 24, Md Sihel Sikder, 20, Md Mizanur Rahman Talukder, 21, Rehana Begum, 20, and Khadija Akhtar Mim, 20.
Acting on tip-off, a special DB team carried out a drive at Meser Ali Market of Kalyanpur in Mirpur around 8:30pm and arrested seven “members” of the gang, said DB Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten while briefing reporters at DMP media centre.
Later, another DB team conducted a drive raid in Ramna area and arrested five “doper gang members” from there, Baten added.
The detectives also seized huge ointment and tablets used for making people unconscious.
During a preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they used to travel in public vehicles in guise of commuters and then snatched valuables from passengers by making them unconscious with seductive food stuffs.
Separate cases were filed with Mirpur and Ramna police stations in connection with the incidents.
