Amid May Day festivity, 2 workers die in Motijheel
Two workers - a construction worker and a van driver - died in Dhaka's Motijheel area this afternoon amidst countrywide celebration of the May Day, also known as International Workers' Solidarity Day.
The victims were identified as Swapan, 18, a construction worker, and Abdul Alim, 30, a van driver, who were believed to have been electrocuted, police said.
"They were working in Dilkhusa area this afternoon. We believe both were electrocuted," said Omar Faruq, officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4:30pm when on-duty doctors declared them dead.
