Dear Campus,
As graduation comes closer, I am starting to wonder what all of this was for. I am starting to realise that once I am out of university, employers will be more interested in my skills than the certificate I have. It makes me wonder if the time and effort put behind becoming a university graduate is worth it. In the olden days, people would become apprentices to masters, and learn essential trade skills on the job. Why, then, in the modern day, do we work so hard for so many years in university trying to get a degree instead of working on our skills and getting an advantage early in life? Sincerely,
Response:
Dear Shoaib, Your concern is valid. Yet, you must look at the bigger picture. Are there enough masters to give apprenticeships to every individual wanting a better life? Moreover, the skills you have acquired are down to your hard work, but university not only gives you knowledge and teaches skills, it also gives you the ability to learn. Your education allows you to absorb knowledge from the world, and we should be grateful for that. Best wishes,
