Businessmen for anti-hartal law
Struck hard by the ongoing political stalemate, business leaders today called upon the government to enact a law against hartals and blockades that “cripple the country’s economy”.
“We want anti-hartal and anti-blockade law. The government should formulate a law for the sake of the economy,” Kazi Akram Uddin, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), said.
“Political programmes like these are fatal for the country’s economy,” he said.
He was speaking at a sit-in programme organised by the businessmen arranged near the FBCCI’s Motijheel office this morning.
‘We don’t want destructive politics. We want to get rid from the situation as the country’s supply chain has already been disrupted due the ongoing hartal and blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance,” he added.
Leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Camber and Commerce Industry (BCCI) and Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) attended the programme.
