EDU organises Social Business Youth Convention 2014
East Delta University (EDU) organised 'Social Business Youth Convention 2014' at its own campus, on July 2. A total of 30 teams from 20 public and private universities participated in the event. Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus handed awards to the winners as chief guest. Tasnia Zahir, Nazeha Ifrath, Fahima Haroon, Fatema Munir and Zaheida Karim (members of the EDU team) won the runner up position for their plan, titled 'Eco-containers, re-introducing jute to the world'. Sayeed Al Noman, Vice Chairman of East Delta University, welcomed all the students, contestants and participants. He informed that last year, EDU won the Social Business Plan Competition arranged by the Yunus Centre.
Intra NSU Model UN Conference held
North South University's Model United Nations Club (NSU MUN Club) organised its inaugural Intra NSU MUN Conference at the NSU Campus from 26 to 28 June. Around 170 students from all departments of NSU participated in the one-day workshop which led to the two-day conference. The workshop was held to make the delegates aware of the rules and procedures of the conference. The theme of the conference was the Millennium Development Goals or MDGs of the United Nations
At the Closing Ceremony, Professor Amin U. Sarkar, Vice Chancellor of NSU, was the Chief Guest. The Club Coordinator, Professor Emdadul Haq, and special guests Md. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge, the United Nations Information Center, and Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Director (United Nations Desk), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with Faculty Advisor Dr. AQMA Rahman Bhuiyan spoke at the closing ceremony.
The Co-Founder and President Towkir Islam Khan delivered the vote of thanks and asked the Co-Founder and Secretary General of the Conference, Zunayeed N Alam, to formally close the conference.
ABC International School's visit to USA
The hard work of the Principal of ABC International School, Narayanganj finally yielded an amazing result. Seven selected students, under the guidance of the Principal, embarked on a study tour to the USA. The journey, starting on June 17, took the group to John Hopkins University for attending a seminar on the prospects and possibilities of admission. In the second stage of the tour, the team visited Aerospace Museum and Natural History Museum in Washington DC. They also took photographs of the White House. The eight-hour journey in the next phase took them to Niagara Falls. In between, they visited the world-famous chocolate factory of Hershey. On return to NY, they had been to different places in Manhattan including the Statue of Liberty. They didn't forget to visit the UN plaza either. The exciting tour concluded on June 24.
