Daffodil University Receives Best Paper Award at SMART
Faculty members of Multimedia Technology and Creative Arts of Daffodil International University (DIU) won the Best Paper Award on Interactive Multimedia at the second international conference on 'System Modelling, & Advancement in Research Trends' (SMART) -- held on November 15 and 16, 2013 in Delhi, India. Baharul Islam, Senior Lecturer, MTCA received the award on November 16, 2013 at the conference. Dr. Md Kabirul Islam, Associate Professor and Head of MTCA Department; Baharul Islam; Arif Ahmed, Multimedia Expert and part-time faculty of MTCA; and Abu Kalam Shamsuddin, Lecturer of MTCA, jointly prepared the paper. Among 120 papers presented in the conference, the paper submitted by DIU faculty members was nominated for the award.

Seminar on Medical Physics at Gono University
International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) started celebrating November 7 as the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) -- an annual event observed in 80 organisations and countries under IOMP. The announcement came on the occasion of 50th anniversary of IOMP in 2013. On that day in 1867, Marie Sklodowska-Curie -- known for pioneering research on radioactivity -- was born in Poland. The day is selected to honour her works. The aim of IDMP is to generate awareness on the importance of medical physicists in the clinical environment as well as in clinical research, and development of sophisticated medical technology. The theme of IDMP-2013 is “Radiation Exposure from Medical Procedures: Ask the Medical Physicist!”
Bangladesh Medical Physics Society (BMPS) and the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering (MPBME) arranged a seminar at Gono Bishwabidyalay (University) recently. Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Gono University was the chief guest and Professor Dr. Sk. Golam Mostofa, Director of National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH), was present as special guest. Kumaresh Chandra Paul, President (acting) BMPS, presided over the seminar, while Md Aktaruzzaamn, Secretary of BMPS, delivered the welcome speech.

Update Dental College Changing the Face of Dentistry in Bangladesh
People in Bangladesh are gradually becoming more aware of dental hygiene and its importance. Keeping in line with this trend, the need for dental surgeons and specialists are increasing. The scope for dentistry has increased tremendously. Inspired by the dream of establishing a world-class medical and dental college, Dr. Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, with the assistance of Alim Foundation, established Update Dental College and Hospital in 2008. The campus, equipped with all modern facilities of a medical college, hosts East West Medical College and Hospital, East West Nursing College and Institute, and spacious dormitories for its students. It's the first campus in the country to host medical, dental college and nursing college together.
Admission is now currently open at Update Dental College for its 7th batch. A total of 82 teachers are currently leading the college. The college regularly arranges seminars, short courses, workshops, free monthly dental campaigns and other programmes. Recently Update Dental College has achieved 1st and 5th places in First Professional BDS Examination held under University of Dhaka. From the time of its establishment till date, the college has achieved significant success. Documentary Screening at ULAB
Center for Enterprise and Society (CES) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) screened the documentary, “Death Trap” (“Mrittuphad”), by Jagoree on November 23, 2013 at its auditorium. Jagoree is a youth-led organisation that promotes informed political thinking and activities. “Death Trap” is a hard-hitting, investigative political documentary against the rising number of road accidents. Produced by Jagoree, it was directed by Monjurul Haque, with Mridul Chowdhury as the executive producer. Monjurul was an associate of Tareque Masud in areas of editing and cinematography. Screening this documentary is a part of the CES's public engagement programme. CES seeks to advance understanding of the opportunities and challenges to business and societal development in Bangladesh through objective, academic study. ULAB Vice Chancellor, Professor Imran Rahman, was present at the programme.
