Boy abducted for ransom killed

Body of seven-year-old Megdad, who was allegedly abducted a week ago, was recovered from Bashipur village in Adamdighi upazila early yesterday.

Hearing the news, aggrieved locals set the houses of the abductor and his relatives on fire.

Son of fish trader Rashedul Islam of Bashipur Sardarpara village in the upazila, the deceased was a student of Shantahar Jamia Arabia Darul Ulum Madrasa.

Megdad

Police quoted family members as saying that a gang abducted Megdad Islam on the Eid day and later demanded Tk 7 lakh as ransom.

The boy's father filed an abduction case accusing a few unidentified people on August 2.

Sub-inspector Dulal Hossain, of Adamdighi PS arrested Ashik Mondal, 20, son of Akhtaruzzaman Babu of the village, after analysing the call lists of the boy's parents and produced him before a court seeking a 7-day remand on Monday. The granted two days' remand.

During interrogation, Ashik confessed to abducting and killing the boy for the money.

According to his confessional statement, police yesterday morning recovered the body from an abandoned factory, said the IO.

Contacted, Gaziur Rahman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sadar and Media) in Bogra, said on completion of the autopsy, the boy was buried at a local graveyard.
