BOSS Sweets
BOSS Sweets has been in business for around a year and already they are a big name in the sweet-meat industry of the country. With five branches and a full range of over 60 items to delight the sweet-tooth of a country which loves its desserts, Boss Sweets is surprisingly affordable.
From the exotic 'Irani bhog', 'malai shorai' to the regular delights such as 'chomchom' and 'roshgolla', they offer a surprisingly diverse range when it comes to their products. As Mr Mizan from Boss tells us, “We have a full range of 65 sweet items and there are three sets of sweets available at the shops throughout the day.” While not all of these will be available every day, Boss Sweets also takes orders for occasions and special events.
When it comes to prices, the curds and the yoghurts cost from Tk 140-290, with their 'special doi' being the most expensive. The variety of 'shondesh' offered ranges from 'mondas' to 'borfis' and cost around Tk500 per kg. Other than that, the ubiquitous 'laddu' is Tk350 while the 'Irani bhog' is priced at Tk500. Even the most expensive item, 'malai shorai' is Tk560 per kg.
In terms of quality, Boss Sweets makes it a point to check the milk for adulteration before purchasing it -- if water has been mixed with the milk, it is rejected. All their products are prepared in their own factories.
At the moment, Boss Sweets has five outlets spread throughout the city. Dhanmondi has two -- one at Road 19, near Pizza Hut and the other at Road 27 near Shawarma Palace. The other three shops are located at Baily Road, Banasree and Paltan Topkhana Road respectively.
