BCL men lay siege to SAU VC's house
About 100 activists of Sylhet Agricultural University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League yesterday laid siege to Vice-Chancellor Prof Shahid Ullah Talukder's house after he suspended the studentship of three BCL men for allegedly attacking a lecturer.
Protik kumar Mazumder, vice-president of BCL SAU unit, Goutam Pal, joint secretary of BCL SAU unit, and Mamun Hasan Jony, an activist, were suspended for a year on Thursday on charges of physically assaulting Aminur Rashid, a lecturer of aquaculture department.
Aminur filed a complaint with the registrar on Wednesday alleging that the three BCL men had demanded Tk 1.5 lakh from him saying they had ensured Aminur's job for him, but when the lecturer refused to pay, the activists assaulted him. However, Shamim Mollah, president of BCL SAU unit, claimed the allegations were baseless and threatened further agitation if the authorities do not withdraw the suspension of the three students.
