Finance Minister AMA Muhith today said additional security measures are being taken to stop further heist at Sonali Bank branches across the country.

Warning systems surrounding the vaults will be installed along with steel walls to fortify the banks, he told reporters after emerging from a meeting of the cabinet committee on purchase at the Cabinet Division.

The board of directors of the state-run has already approved the steps, but since Sonali Bank is a large bank, so the implementation might take a while, he added.

Muhith’s comments came a day after miscreants looted Tk 30.8 lakh from Sonali Bank's Adamdighi branch in Bogra through a 30-feet tunnel.

One of the positives that came out of the Hallmark loan scam and the Kishoreganj Sonali Bank heist is that the banks are now taking steps to increase internal control, Muhith said.

Earlier, robbers took away Tk 16.40 crore by digging a tunnel into Sonali Bank's vault in Rathkhola area of Kishoreganj district town on January 25.
