Stop attacks, filing of cases: Oikyafront

Major opposition alliance Jatiya Oikyafront today issued an ultimatum asking the government to immediately stop the "spree of attacks and filing of cases" against the opposition men.

"Stop the attacks and filing of cases within 24 to 72 hours otherwise the people will put up a strong resistance," Jatiya Oikyafront leader ASM Abdur Rob threatened the government.

The prime minister will have to shoulder the responsibility of any untoward situation that might arise as a consequence, he said while addressing an election rally for Oikyafront candidate Salahuddin Sarkar in Tongi this afternoon.

Rob alleged that the prime minister and other ministers are moving with protocol and he demanded the same for the opposition leaders.

He said, "The prime minister has been frightened and she is looking for opportunity to stall the elections." He also assured that the PM will be given security if Oikyafront is voted to power. He went on saying that Hasina will be given passage to go abroad if she wishes so.

“They have arms, we have ballot"

Nagorik Oikya Convener and Oikyafront leader Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, "We are in the battlefield. They have arms, we have ballot. We will win this battle."

He urged the party men to keep vigil till December 30.

Addressing the rally, BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan mentioned that so far eight BNP candidates have been arrested. He alleged that the government wants to cling to power fearing that they will be held accountable for their "misdeeds".

Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury also echoed ASM Rob saying that the PM has been intimidated within five days into the electioneering. He said that the violence that is going on is "unprecedented".

He demanded that the army be deployed from tomorrow.
