Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the security of the Jatiya Oikyafront candidates upholding law order across the country.
The CEC sent a letter to IGP Javed Patwary directing him to take legal action against the lawbreakers, Abdul Halim Khan, deputy secretary of EC, told The Daily Star.
The commission also sent another letter to the IGP seeking a probe report over the attack on Dr Kamal Hossain’s motorcade in Dhaka on December 14.
In the letter, the IGP has been asked to investigate the attack on the Jatiya Oikyafront leader’s motorcade and submit a report in three working days, a joint secretary of the EC told The Daily Star.
The letter was sent this morning.
WHAT HAPPENED TO DR KAMAL?
Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain's motorcade came under attack near the Martyred Intellectuals' Memorial in the capital's Mirpur on December 14.
At least 25 people were injured in the attack carried out allegedly by ruling party men around 9:45am when the eminent jurist was returning home after paying tribute to the martyred intellectuals, alleged leaders of the opposition alliance.
Dr Kamal, also president of the Gono Forum, was unhurt.
