LDA says its candidates facing obstacle during campaign, lodges complain to EC

Left Democratic Alliance today lodged a complaint with the Election Commission saying that their candidates are facing obstacle during electioneering in different constituencies.

Candidates of Communist Party of Bangladesh, a component of LDA, were not being able to campaign freely in the areas under Jamalpur-2, Dinajpur-4, Dhaka-6, Dhaka-13, Dhaka-14 and Shathkhira-1 constituencies, said LDA’s election steering committee coordinator Shah Alam, also general secretary of the party.

The candidates of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh contesting in the Dhaka-17, Patuakhali-4 and Kushtia-2 constituencies were also facing the same problems during electioneering, said Alam.

In the letter addressed to the EC secretary, the LDA alleged that police and ruling party men were obstructing them during election campaign and also broke loudspeakers of some candidates which is a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct.

However, EC secretary Helal Uddin did not meet them, Shah Alam said.

Immediate steps need to be taken to ensure free, fair and credible polls, he added.
