Campaign cost Tk 10 per voter: EC

A candidate can spend a maximum amount of Tk 25 lakh for campaigning ahead of the elections, the Election Commission said today.

Additionally, the commission has fixed Tk 10 as the maximum expenditure for a voter by the candidate from a particular constituency.

The commission announced the rates today based on Article 44(B) of Representation of the People Order (RPO) 1972, reads a pressnote of the government.

Election Commission is expected to open the campaign field within Monday, after completing all official decorum, for the election on December 30.

According to Article 44(B) of RPO 1972, the budget of a political party for a nominee and the election expenditure of the nominee combined has to be within Tk 25 lakh.

WHEN IS THE ELECTION?

The 11th general election will be held on December 30. It was deferred once by the Election Commission upon demands from the opposition political parties.

As per the polls schedule, the deadline for filing the nomination papers was November 28. Since then, the commission has been engaged in hearing appeals of rejected candidates.

After December 9, the last date for nomination withdrawal, the commission will allot polls symbols to contestant and open the field for campaigning.
