BNP’s Chattogram-9 candidate shown arrested in 2 more cases

Police today showed Chattogram city’s BNP President Shahadat Hossain in two more cases, casting further fears over his candidacy for elections.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrates Sarwar Jahan and Safi Uddin accepted the bids and put him behind bars, our local staff correspondent reports.

Police sought him under arrest in the cases while producing him before court today, said Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Nirmalendu Bikash Chawkrabarty.

According to his lawyer Advocate Kamrul Islam Sazzad, this would take the case count against him to nine since his arrest back during early last month.

The fresh cases are with Chawakbazar and Chandgaon police stations, filed on November3 and October 29 this year. It includes charges of sabotage against Shahadat.

The BNP leader was arrested from Dhaka on November 7 when he went to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court premises to visit BNP leaders and activists.

He was later taken to Chattogram and shown arrested in a case filed with Kotwali police station on October 29 on charge of subversive activities.

According to the affidavit of Dr Shahadat submitted before the Returning Officer during filing nomination, he stands accused of 40 cases.
