Rab arrests alleged robber, recovers arms
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested an alleged robber and recovered eight locally made arms and 11 bullets from his possession in Teknaf yesterday.
Nurul Alam, son of Ijjat Ali of Shyamlapur village in Teknaf, was arrested during a raid in his village around 12:30am.
Rab said Alam was accused in five cases for robbery and raping of a foreign national.
Maj Md Ruhul Amin, company commander of Rab-7's Cox's Bazar camp, said they had information that some armed criminals were staying in Shyamlapur for committing robbery and other crimes.
Following the information, a team of Rab-7 conducted the raid at midnight and arrested Nurul with one LG and four rounds of bullets.
Based on the information gleaned from Nurul in primary interrogation, Rab raided his house and recovered seven more locally made firearms, 11 rounds of bullets and four rifle cartridges.
He told Rab that he had collected the weapons to carry out various criminal activities.
The Rab official said preparations were on to file a case against Nurul under the Arms Act and he would soon be handed over to Teknaf police.
