Rampaging man kills wife, 2 others

A man reportedly stabbed three people including his wife and house owner to death in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi early yesterday.

Two other people were also injured in the incident that took place around 4:30am in Kumardi village in the uapzila's Putia union.

Police detained the accused Badal Mia after the incident.

The deceased are Badal's wife Nazma Akter, 42, house owner Tajul Islam, 58, and Tajul's wife Monoara Begum, 48.

The injured persons are Badal's son Sohag, 15, and house owner Tajul's daughter Kulsum, 23.

Abul Kalam, inspector (investigation) of Shibpur Police Station, said Badal-Nazma duo often engaged in altercation.

Such a family feud occurred yesterday morning and Nasima started screaming. Locals came to rescue but Badal started stabbing them as soon as they entered the house.

At one point, Badal's son Sohag hit him with a brick that left him unconscious. Locals then rushed the injured to local hospital where doctors declared two dead.

Tajul Islam died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

"Initially, we suspect the incident occurred due to family dispute. The offender Badal has been detained," the police official said.

Police launched an investigation to the murder, however, no written complaint was filed from the victims' families, he added.
