Man kills daughter, wife, self in Rangpur

An ultra poor man allegedly died by suicide after killing his wife and one and a half years old daughter in Balapara area of Rangpur's Gangachhara yesterday.

Villagers found the body of Hafizul Islam, 30, hanging from the ceiling while the bodies of his wife Fatema Begum, 25, and daughter Humaiya Begum were on a bed with their throats slit.

Hafizul used to work at a garment factory in Dhaka and went home after the shutdown, they said, adding that the family had been suffering poverty for the last few weeks.

The couple were fighting on Friday night, hours before their bodies were found, they said.

Noticing that the family had been unusually quiet the next morning, the neighbours checked on them and found out what had happened. 

Susanta Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Gangachara Police Station, said it appeared that Hafizul killed his wife and daughter when they were asleep and then died by suicide.

Police sent the bodies to Rangpur Medical College for autopsies.

Police are investigating the incident.
