Cox’s Bazar Runway Expansion: Cabinet okays company appointment
A joint venture company that includes China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has been awarded the Cox's Bazar airport runway expansion work for Tk 1,568.86 crore.
The cabinet committee on purchase approved the proposal of civil aviation and tourism ministry to appoint the joint venture of M/s CYWEB and CCECC for the expansion works at its 37th meeting held yesterday.
Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, additional secretary of the cabinet division, said this during a briefing to the journalists after the meeting.
The government last year took initiative to expanding the runway of Cox's Bazar airport, aiming at upgrading it to international standard and offer foreign holidaymakers a hassle-free trip to the world's longest unbroken sea beach.
In the meeting, a deal was awarded to Halla Construction Co. Korea while approving the same ministry's proposal on variation of construction work of Cox's Bazar Airport Development Project quoting Tk 70.24 crore.
The committee yesterday returned two proposals of Road Transport and Highways Division on construction project titled Performance-Based Operation for 4-years and Strengthening of 4-Lane Dhaka-Chattogram National highway (N-1) (Daudkandi-Chattogram portion), informed the additional secretary.
He said the committee returned the proposals asking for revision.
Road Transport and Highways Division forwarded the proposal to award Tk 290.27 crore contract for one package (Chattogram portion) of the project to Taher Brothers Ltd as well as to award Tk 556.54 crore contract for construction work of Kumilla portion under the same project to joint venture of Abdul Momen Ltd and Spectra Engineers Ltd.
The committee also gave a nod to the proposal of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) for appointment of joint venture of Ramboll Denmark A/S, Aqua Consultant & Associates Ltd (Bangladesh) and Resource Planning and Management Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd, as consultant at Tk 57.79 crore for Second City Region Development Project.
The committee also approved the proposal of Bangladesh Power Development Board for repair works of two units of Karnaphuli Hydroeletric Power Plant involving Tk 126.81 crore.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting in virtual platform.
