Man held for 'killing' wife for dowry

Police yesterday arrested a labourer for allegedly murdering his wife for dowry at Chittagong's Satkania upazila on Friday noon.

The arrestee was identified by police as Md Parvez, 25, son of Solaiman, a resident of Churamoni of Satkania upazila.

Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Hossen of Satkania Police Station said Parvez and family members allegedly murdered his wife Rokeya Begum, 21, for dowry and victim's brother Mohiuddin filed a case against Parvez and his family members.

The suspects went into hiding soon after the case was filed on Friday night. Police arrested Parvez from a remote hilly area in Keochiya union around noon yesterday, the OC said

Quoting victim's family members, the OC said the accused used to torture the victim regularly demanding dowry.

Victim's body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy. The arrestee will be produced before court today, the OC added.
