Gomes Milu Murder: 3 suspects arrested

Police yesterday arrested three people in connection with the murder of Milgrade Gomes Milu in the capital's Tejgaon on Friday.

The arrestees are Joynal, Jamir and Parvez.

A team of Tejgaon police picked up Joynal, a former house help of Milu, from his village home in Brahmanbaria's Bancharampur upazila early yesterday, said Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

In the evening, police arrested his two associates from the capital's Mohakhali slum and recovered some money, gold ornaments, and a cell phone from their possession.

The arrestees during primary interrogation said they suspected that they would be able to collect a huge amount of money from the Arjotpara house as Milu's four sons were expatriates, claimed the DMP DC.

According to a plan, the arrestees reached the house and pressed the doorbell of the apartment. Milu, aged about 65, opened the door as Joynal was known to her.

“Stepping in, the accused threatened the victim with a knife and asked her to give them all the valuables. As the victim tried to protest, the accused slit her throat,” Biplob said.

The three soon left the house with a cell phone and some valuables before her 80-year-old husband could sense anything going wrong.

Police on Friday recovered Milu's body from her flat. There was a deep gash to her throat. She also suffered a knife injury on her right arm.

Family members said the couple's four sons live in Canada and the USA.
