They call him Chhoto Bhoot (little ghost).

For his love for expeditions at the age of only four and a half, Muhammad Sadman Casper is quite popular among the trekker community.

His father Tofazzal Hossain Apu, a trekker since 2002, is a member of trekking group “Living with Forest”.

Casper wants to be like his adventurous father.

One of his favourite activities is pitching his small tent. Ropes and various trekking equipment are his toys, said Apu.

He already has under his belt the experience of camping with his father in the hills of Sitakunda and Kaptai.

Such a fun-loving bubbly kid now is confined to a hospital bed. He was admitted to Royal Hospital, a private clinic in the port city, on August 19, with complaints of rectal bleeding.

Numerous tests failed to find the reason behind the bleeding, which did not stop even after doctors conducted a surgery on August 23.

Child Specialist Dr Utpal Das of the clinic said, “It's a rare case and nothing could be diagnosed yet.”

However, the family and members of “Living with Forest” would not sit idle.

They have opened a Facebook page Casper-er Jonno Cholun Kichhu Kori (Let's Do Something for Casper).

Through the social media platform and other networks, they are trying to contact doctors and specialists at home and abroad, who may come up with an explanation and cure for the child's ailment.

Limon Barua, a member of “Living with Forest”, said, “Not only our group members, other trekkers in the country are also anxious about the child. Even many outside the trekking community and from abroad are communicating with us.”

The Facebook page also makes calls for donation for Casper's treatment. It has Apu's Dutch Bangla Bank account No 102-101-155-656 written on its cover photo. Updates on the fund collection and his treatment are regularly posted on this page.

“A doctor from Australia also contacted us to know the problem of the kid,” said Apu, an interior designer by profession and a resident of Eidgah area of the city.

On doctors' advice, the family decided to shift Casper to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and left for the capital in an ambulance around 6:30pm yesterday.
