Bullet-hit body of youth found
A youth was found dead on the banks of the Titas river in Brahmanbaria town yesterday morning. His body bore several bullet marks, said police.
According to the law enforcers, the youth, Al Amin, 28, was a drug dealer. He was killed in a “gunfight between two rival groups of drug peddlers” on Monday night.
His wife, Tanzina Akter, however, rejected the claim and accused the police of killing Al Amin, son of late Zillur Rahman.
She alleged that some eight to 10 men had come to their home in the town's Kandipara area the same night. Later, they introduced themselves as Detective Branch (DB) of police and picked up Al Amin.
Contacted, Md Mofiz Uddin, officer-in-charge of the DB in Brahmanbaria, said they were not involved in the incident. “None of our teams raided the area,” he said.
Al Amin was a “notorious drug peddler” in the district. He was killed in a “gunfight between two rival groups of drug peddlers” in Medda area, said Mainur Rahman, OC of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station.
He also claimed to have recovered some locally-made weapons and bullets from the spot.
The body was sent to the district sadar hospital for autopsy, he added.
