'Atantra Jarip' to diagnose crops
The Department Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Lalmonirhat has been working to educate the farmers in the region how they will diagnose their crops using net trap.
'Atantra Jarip', a method that helps the farmers to diagnose their crops by trapping the insects, both harmful and harmless. Agriculture officials said the growers need to set the trap three times a day, after every week.
At the end of the day, if one found most of the trapped insects are harmless their crops are safe and if the numbers are opposite their crops are attacked and need treatments.
Biplob Kumar Mohanta, Aditmari upazila agriculture officer, said after examining the trapped insects, agriculture officials prescribed the farmers what types of insecticides would be used at their croplands. The farmers in the area are getting the nets free of cost, Biplob added.
A number of farmers in the area said the newly applied method helps them to diagnose their crops and helped them not to apply any unnecessary medicines in the croplands.
Jaman Shahin, sub-assistant plant protect officer in Aditmari, said upazila agriculture officials are providing the training to the farmers by visiting them door to door.
