13kg gold found in seized car
Police yesterday recovered 110 gold bars weighing 12.83kg from a seized vehicle, which was kept at their station for three days, at Bagharpara upazila in Jessore.
The white private car, seized in connection with a mugging case filed by its owner, was at the police station compound for last three days, said Foyruddin Ahmad, officer-in-charge of Bagharpara Police Station.
“We seized the car from Vitaballah area on Jessore-Narail road on Wednesday but did not find anything during primary search,” he added.
“On information, we searched the car again around 2:30am today in presence of upazila administration officials and found the gold bars in the gear box,” the OC said.
Sub-inspector Samedul Haque said members of Vitaballah police outpost noticed a hue and cry near their camp.
As they approached the scene, one Tauhidur Rahman, a resident of Customs Ghat area in Khulna city, alleged that some six muggers snatched his money and valuables and were trying to take away his car, Samedul added.
The police arrested alleged mugger Mizanur Rahman of Narail on the spot and brought Tauhidur and his car to the police station where he filed a case, Samedul said.
The SI said they had kept the car as evidence and later recovered the gold from it.
A case was filed against seven including Tauhidur, who is absconding, and his driver Abdul Maleq.
