Attempt to detain Jamuna boss Babul
The Rapid Action Battalion yesterday attempted to detain Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul in front of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad’s Baridhara residence in the capital.
Babul, however, managed to evade detention, as several JP members came forward and protested the attempt around 6:15pm in the presence of journalists.
Babul, husband of JP presidium member Salma Islam, was coming out of Ershad’s residence.
When the Rab members tried to force him onto one of their vehicles, JP men scuffled with them, giving him the opportunity to get back into Ershad’s house.
Mokhlesur Rahman, a Rab-1 official who was on-duty at the place during the incident, said nothing like that happened.
Later, JP Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader told journalists that they had talked to the authorities concerned on the matter.
The authorities will inform them about the incident after an enquiry, he added.
