A creative protest to free Kajol and the freedom of expression
It has been more than 165 days that photojournalist and Editor of the Daily Pokkhokal, Shafiqul Islam Kajol has been imprisoned, after being missing till March 10. Two cases were filed against him under the controversial Digital Security Act.
A second edition of online protest, titled Kajoler Mukti Ebong Mukto Chinta 2. This online programme has been airing live from the movement's Facebook page, starting from August 18.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. On the first day, the session involved recitations, where Dolon Champa Dutta, Naseef Amin, Nazmul Ahsan, Rowshan Ara Mukta and Shashanko Kumar Saha performed, showing solidarity with 'Where is Kajol?' movement.
On the second day, an online musical concert held. Hosted by Humayun Azam, the session had Aurp Rahe from the band Leela, band Bunophool, singers Pragata Naoha and Karishma Sanu Sovvota as guests. The musicians came together to express their unity and asking for freeing Kajol and demanding the freedom of speech.
The second edition of this arrangement will conclude on August 24. It is organised by Kajol's son, Monorom Polok.
On day three (today), beginning at 9 pm, the session moderated by Maliha Mohsin will have a special puppet show by the nine year old Chondrobindu Tota son of Rahul Anondo (Joler Gaan) titled, Abol Tabol Puppet Theatre.
On the second edition of this protest, Polok says that he expects all the artists and cultural activists to come forward and fight for the freedom and basic human rights.
"The best way to make the protest effective under the pandemic situation was to host it on online platforms," says Polok. "I am thankful to the artistes and cultural activists who stood beside me. We are waiting for my father to return home safely." He also urged those who can should join him on the protest to be held on August 23, at Shaheed Minar.
