On 26 April this year, Aesthetic Skin Laser (ASL) held an informational group discussion at its premises. The purpose of the event was to disseminate information about the various skin, hair, and fitness services of ASL. Given that concepts of advanced cosmetic procedures are still new in Bangladesh, the discussion was timely and enlightening.

Firstly, a milk cleanser containing lactic extracts is applied to the face and neck to remove dead cells. Next, an enzymatic peel made from fruit extracts is applied. Then, a special mask is left on the skin for a while to improve oxygen circulation in the skin. Instead of conventional beauty masks which become dried, this is absorbed by the skin and gives off a fizzy, foamy sensation during the process. It is followed up with a serum that rejuvenates the skin. Lastly, a tinted sunscreen cream is applied.
Responding to questions on lifestyle changes or maintenance after fat reduction treatment, Dr Matiur asserted, “You must be patient because the success of this treatment depends on your lifestyle, country-to-country variations, and many other factors. Irrespective of the procedure, maintenance is a must.” He emphasised on a funnel-shaped diet plan. Our food consumption must decline as the day progresses, with the breakfast being the heaviest and the most important meal of the day that must not be skipped. In South Asian region, there is a tendency to follow a pyramid-shaped diet plan which leads to the accumulation of fat in the abdomen as the digestion process slows down at night. Duration of the fat reduction treatment typically varies between 8-10 sessions. However, Dr. Matiur confirmed that a young female client witnessed visible changes after four sessions. Age is an important factor. Dr. Matiur also noted that it is difficult to bring about a drastic change in individuals aged over 50 and in menopausal women. “Safety is a major priority,” he added.
