Accused found dead in CID headquarters
An accused was found dead in the custody of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters at the capital's Malibagh yesterday.
The deceased was Abdul Aziz, 32, son of Mohammad Ali of Ghior in Manikganj.
Aziz was found hanging from the grille with his lungi around 6:30am, said Paltan Police Station Sub-inspector Morshed Alam.
Dhaka Medical College morgue sources said the deceased “committed suicide” but the body bore injury marks in the shoulder, hands and legs.
However, Ashraful Islam, special superintendent of CID, said, “The reason behind the death will be clear after the autopsy report.”
Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Ghior Police Station, told The Daily Star that Aziz kidnapped a one-and-half-year-old girl Tania, daughter of Rezaul Karim of Dhulindi village, on December 5.
Aziz demanded Tk 3 lakh from her family as ransom through a bKash number, he said.
“CID officials arrested him Thursday and recovered the bKash number from his possession,” he added.
Tania's grandfather Sirajul Islam said they did not find the girl yet.
The CID official said Aziz was in their custody as they were investigating the kidnap case.
