ABM Musa on life support
Veteran journalist ABM Musa is critically ill and has been put on life support at Labaid hospital in the capital since early yesterday.
"Doctors kept him on artificial ventilation as his heart and kidneys have been damaged," said Dr Boren Chakraborty, a cardiologist treating Musa.
A pacemaker has been inserted into his body to maintain a normal heart rate, he added.
Stating the 83-year-old's health condition as critical, the physician said it was gradually deteriorating.
Parveen Sultana Jhuma, daughter of Musa, said her father was put on ventilation around 2:30am. "Though his condition is critical, he is still responding," she told The Daily Star.
Musa has been suffering from complications for quite some days. He was admitted to the hospital on January 1 and was treated for a month and a half, said Parveen.
But he relapsed again and was hospitalised on March 29, she added.
Family members requested the people of the country to pray for his recovery.
Born on February 28, 1931 at Dharmapur village in Feni, Musa contributed in different fields of journalism during his 64-year career and is a founder member of the Jatiya Press Club.
He started off as a journalist with the Insaf in 1950 before moving to the Pakistan Observer the same year. He worked there as a reporter, and later news editor till 1971.
Before his illness, ABM Musa wrote columns in different newspapers.
